The Play Center

The purpose of the Play Center is to provide a fun, safe, and enriching environment where children of our members can stay while their parents exercise. Each member of our staff is CPR certified and trained to make the time spent in the Play Center fun and enjoyable. The Play Center staff will strive to create an atmosphere of support and affection and will provide age appropriate activities, materials and equipment.

Guidlines:

Children between the ages of newborn and 12 years of age may visit the Play Center while their parents exercise in the facility. All parents must sign their child “in” and “out” each time they visit the Play Center. So that they may be located in case of an emergency, parents should indicate on the sign in sheet where they will be in the facility.

If a child is left in the Play Center a parent must be in The Center for Health and Wellness at all times. The maximum capacity in the Play Center is no more that 15 children at any given time.

Parents are required to retrieve a child who cries for 15 minutes or longer after being dropped off. The decision to notify a parent will be left to the discretion of the Play Center leader.

Attendance:

To ensure the safety and well being of all children in the Play Center, we ask that appropriate steps be taken by each parent to ensure that their child is both clean and healthy before leaving them in the Play Center.

If a child appears to be ill, the attendant on duty will immediately notify the parent to take the child home. The Center for Health and Wellness reserves the right to deny the use of the Play Center for any child who shows visible signs of illness.

Your child’s health and safety is our main concern and we need your help in our efforts to minimize the spread of disease and/or illness.

What to Bring:

Please supply all needs of your child, such as snacks (please, no gum or hard candy), diapers, pacifiers, toys, etc. All supplies should be clearly labeled with the child’s name.

The Center for Health and Wellness cannot be responsible for items brought into the Play Center. Please leave valuables at home.

Please bring a change of clothes for any child who is being potty trained. Play Center staff does not change diapers and if needed, parents will be called to come change their child’s diaper.

The Center for Health and Wellness Play Center staff cannot administer any medications.

Discipline:

The Center for Health and Wellness believes in a positive approach to discipline, where appropriate behavior is praised. The ultimate goal is to help our children develop self-control and problem solving skills. We feel this is accomplished through the use of sensitivity, consistency, firmness, fairness, and the redirection of unwanted behavior. This will be conveyed through the use of a firm but pleasant voice by our staff.

At times it will become necessary to use “time out”. “Time out” is the removal of a child for a short time period (3 to5 minutes) from a situation in which the child is misbehaving and has not responded to other discipline techniques. The “time out” space will be located away from the activity but within the attendant’s sight. After “time out” the attendant will discuss the incident and appropriate behavior with the child. When the child returns to the group, the incident is over and the child is treated with the same affection and respect shown the other children.

A punch card can be purchased at the front desk for $30. A punch card is worth 15 visits to the Play Center, per child.
